Tree Care Tips
Having trees on your residential or commercial property can add character, charm, and natural beauty, transforming any space into a welcoming environment. However, like any valuable investment, trees require proper installation and ongoing maintenance to thrive. Without regular care, these natural assets can quickly become unsightly or, worse, pose serious safety hazards to people and property.
Most home and business owners love the trees and other landscaping features on their property but don't quite understand the work involved with upkeep. Let's take a closer look at why tree care is so important and why more Lowcountry residents are using a business or residential tree service in Ridgeville, SC to handle the hard work for them.
Most people are unaware of just how responsive trees are to their environment. If not maintained, trees may create messy landscapes and introduce hazards near your home. When trees become overgrown, they are more than just unattractive. They can actually threaten your property and family. At Dyson Tree Service, we've had to trim and even remove trees for families who were at risk for this very reason.
Tree trimming not only improves the appearance of your home or business but also opens up scenic views. Methods such as raising the canopy or clearing sightlines can revitalize your property, making outdoor spaces more inviting. Careful pruning also reinforces tree health, ensuring they stand strong against harsh South Carolina weather.
Each tree has unique needs, so top tree care professionals treat every job as a new challenge. It is important to avoid inexperienced workers who trim without understanding the tree's requirements. Every pruning decision should enhance both the health and the look of your landscape.
Tree trimming is the process of shaping and managing the trees on your property to guide their growth and improve the overall look and usefulness of your landscape. This careful work helps maintain the structure and vitality of each tree. Pruning is closely related but focuses on removing dead, diseased, or overcrowded branches to promote healthier growth and a more attractive appearance. While trimming can be done for reasons beyond health, such as aesthetics or space, both practices are essential for keeping your trees strong and your yard looking its best.
Here are a few additional reasons you may want to consider hiring a tree trimming service in Ridgeville, SC like Dyson to get the job done right:
When experts trim your trees, you not only improve the appearance and safety of your property but also make it easier to spot early signs of disease. Properly maintained trees reveal warning signs such as discolored or spotted leaves, which might indicate issues like anthracnose before they become severe.
Well-cared-for trees are one of the best ways to elevate your landscape's beauty. With regular trimming, trees take on a neat, attractive shape that makes your entire property look more inviting and polished.
Living in South Carolina means facing storms and unpredictable weather as a home or business owner. Trees that are neglected or in poor health can become dangerous, particularly during strong winds or severe conditions. Regular trimming lowers the chance of accidents and helps protect your family or customers from injuries.
Here are a few other tree care services that local pros like Dyson Tree Service offer to supplement trimming:
Pruning serves two important purposes: making trees safer and keeping them healthy. By removing branches that pose safety risks, you can prevent potential damage from weak limbs. Regular maintenance pruning also keeps trees looking attractive. It's wise to hire a tree care company skilled in both safety and aesthetic pruning to keep your trees in top condition.
Trees can lose strength due to pests, disease, or severe weather. Cabling and bracing are techniques that add structural support, helping vulnerable trees remain upright instead of being removed. These methods extend the life of weakened trees and safeguard your landscape.
In South Carolina, brush clearing becomes especially important from spring through summer. Clearing away thick brush not only reduces fire risk but also keeps your property safe and tidy. Always work with a service provider equipped to handle all types of brush and hillside removal.

Palms thrive in the warm climates of the southern United States, instantly adding a coastal vibe to your yard. But over time, brown fronds can build up around the crown, dulling their charm. Since palm trees do not shed old fronds on their own, occasional trimming is needed to keep them looking fresh and tidy.
You should trim your palm tree when you notice a buildup of brown, dead fronds. Taking care of these not only improves appearance but also prevents hazards. Here's why regular palm trimming matters:
Trimming is usually done by cutting away the dead fronds at the base of the crown. Since palms are often tall, it's safest to have a professional arborist handle the job with proper equipment.

Usually, stumps are ground down once a tree is removed. However, there are cases when the entire stump, including the root ball and underlying material, must be extracted. If you plan to build on that site, full removal is necessary since grinding alone won't suffice. That's where Dyson's stump removal services start to make a lot of sense.
DIY stump removal methods like digging, burning, or using chemicals might seem practical at first-until hours pass and the stump remains stubbornly in place. Large hardwood stumps in Columbia and throughout South Carolina are especially tough. Chemical solutions can also take months or even years before you see results.
At Dyson Tree Service, our team handles everything for you so you avoid a sore back and actually save money over time. We remove the entire stump, clean up thoroughly, and leave your yard spotless.
Wondering whether stump removal or stump grinding is the best course of action? Give us a call at your convenience. We'd be happy to explain the differences and recommend one over the other based on your needs.

In order to better utilize its American factory and circumvent some U.S. import tariffs, Volvo will shift part of the XC60’s production to South Carolina starting in January.
Indeed, the Swedish automaker is preparing its American manufacturing facility in Ridgeville, near Charleston, for the production of its most popular model.
This decision makes sense, since manufacturing the XC60 within one of its largest markets will reduce transportation costs for the automaker, and it will allow it to make its U.S. factory profitable more quickly.
This last factor is important, since the Charleston plant has never matched its 150,000-vehicle yearly production capacity, especially since the S60 was discontinued in 2024.
This left only the top-of-the-line EX90 and Polestar 3 electric crossovers coming down the production line, which has led to an overall utilization rate of only about 15%.
To rectify this, Volvo will produce a proportion of the XC60s it sells in the United States in South Carolina rather than in Belgium, as it has done since the popular SUV was introduced in 2008.
According to the president of Volvo Cars America, adding production of the XC60 in Charleston will boost the factory’s output by about 20,000 vehicles initially, which is two-thirds of its current production levels of about 30,000 units.
This will require adding at least a full shift, which should also boost employment in the area, and the company is expecting to increase its American production further in the coming years.
While this will likely be done by increasing XC60 output, the South Carolina factory is also earmarked to produce a new flagship plug-in hybrid SUV that will slot above the XC90 in order to compete with the likes of the new Audi Q9, the BMW X7, and the Mercedes-Benz GLS. This new model is expected to arrive in 2028.
The XC60 itself should get a significant refresh next year, with a larger battery for plug-in models, which should help it compete with newer PHEVs, such as the Mercedes-Benz GLC 350e, which has up to 87 kilometres of electric range, compared to the current XC60 T8’s 58 kilometres.
The company also hopes to increase its American sales with the expected arrival of a heavily reworked XC40 and the new EX60 electric SUV.
This comes at a time when Volvo’s U.S. sales dropped by 12% in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, in part due to the discontinuation of the U.S. federal tax credit for EVs and PHEVs, along with tariffs on imported vehicles.
Making the XC60 in the United States will not shield Volvo from tariffs entirely, since the automaker will keep importing parts from Europe to assemble the SUV in South Carolina, but it should still help lessen the effects of these tariffs on the completed vehicle’s price tag.

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A Ridgeville man recognized as the nation’s longest-serving prison warden has received South Carolina’s highest civilian honor.
Edsel Taylor was presented with the Order of the Palmetto during a Dorchester County Council meeting Monday night in recognition of his lifetime of public service and contributions to South Carolina.
The Order of the Palmetto is awarded by the governor to South Carolinians who have demonstrated extraordinary achievement, service, and leadership.
Taylor devoted 51 years to the South Carolina Department of Corrections, ultimately serving as warden of MacDougall Correctional Institution. Throughout his career, Taylor became known for advancing rehabilitation, education, and innovative correctional programs.
According to Dorchester County, Taylor helped create a dedicated housing unit for military veterans and oversaw the construction of an inmate-built chapel at MacDougall. Under his leadership, the institution also earned accreditation from the American Correctional Association.
“I have heard countless stories about his integrity, and his character, and his many decades of service. So, I know just on the testimony alone he is worthy of the Order of the Palmetto,” said State Rep. Gil Gatch during Monday’s ceremony.
Beyond his corrections career, Taylor is a decorated Vietnam veteran who served as a Medical Service Corps officer before completing a 28-year career in the U.S. Army Reserve. He retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Following his retirement from corrections and military service, Taylor remained active in conservation and civic efforts throughout South Carolina. County officials said he has helped protect hundreds of acres of land through conservation easements and has served on numerous local boards and commissions.
In a social media post, Dorchester County described Taylor as a corrections leader, Army officer, conservationist and civic leader whose service to South Carolina has spanned more than five decades.
